The negative effects of oil fields on the environment and public health in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq

On January 14, 2023, the Human Network organized a seminar for specialists in the field of oil and the environment about the negative effects of oil fields on the environment and public health. It was presented by engineers Sarah from Crescent Petroleum Co. (Iraq) FZE and Arez from the Black Cave Company about the companies working in this field, the methods of contracts, the provision of health safety and environmental protection, and they mentioned that the Ministry of Health has no role and there is a special body within the Ministry of Natural Resources specialized in environmental and health matters...
After that, extensive discussions were held on the subject by the attendees, and they reached the following conclusions:
1- Activating Law No. 8 of 2008 on environmental protection.
2- Work to appoint an environmental representative in the fields
3- Organizing courses for journalists and media professionals working in the field of the environment
4- Working on companies' contribution to developing a healthy environment
5- Carrying out research and studies on the reality of the fields and aspects related to the environment, health and public affairs
6-Write a comprehensive report on the UPP topic
7- Encouraging and appreciating companies that implement health and environmental rules
8- Collecting information and statistics about the outputs of these fields in the field of causing cancer, in cooperation with cancer hospitals.
9- Organizing organizations working in the field of the environment within a wide network, and thus putting pressure on the concerned authorities for the purpose of applying environmental and health safety standards.
10 - Carrying out wide awareness campaigns to reduce misuse of companies and work to implement health and environmental safety standards
